【英語多読】6年生「ビブリオ・バトル」

週に1時間、英語多読活動を中心とする6年生の英語授業で、「ビブリオ・バトル」を行いました。毎月提出する本の感想文を1つ選んで、まずは小さいグループでプレゼンし合って一番良い感想文を決めました。通過した生徒が、繰り返しプレゼンして、評価された後、最後にクラス全体の前で3人がプレゼンをしました。

決勝で発表されたのは、18世紀のイギリス人の名作家ジェーン・オースティン、アメリカ人の有名なポップスターマイケルジャクソン、長崎の原爆で大けがした渡辺千恵子の世界平和を促進する活動に関しての感想文でした。どれも興味深いプレゼンで、それぞれの本を他の生徒にアピールする良い機会となりました。

A group of 6th grade students held a ‘Biblio Battle’ book report contest in their weekly Extensive Reading class. Each student presented one of the book reports she has written since the beginning of the course in April to a small group of her classmates, who then chose the best report to progress to the next round.

In the final round, the three remaining students made presentations about the lives of well-known 18th century English novelist Jane Austen, the ‘King of Pop’ Michael Jackson, and Chieko Watanabe, who was left paralysed by the atomic bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki but who spent her life campaigning for a world without nuclear weapons. The presentations were not only extremely interesting, but provided a valuable opportunity for the students to recommend books worth reading to their classmates.
