2021.11.17 姉妹大学体験授業を行いました

2〜6年生50名が、アメリカ合衆国ミネソタ州にある姉妹大学 セントキャサリン大学のウィルコックス教授（社会学部）による体験授業を受けました。授業のテーマは「社会化−自分と社会」でした。私たちが自分自身をどのように認知しているのか、そしてその認知の仕方は社会の影響を受けているというお話でした。授業には何度かグループワークが取り入れられ、生徒が自身の考えを発表する機会も設けられました。大学レベルの内容ではありましたが、ウィルコックス教授は中高生でも理解しやすいように工夫してくださり、生徒たちは臆することなく活発に参加していました。アメリカの大学の授業を体験する貴重な機会となり、今後交換留学や海外大学への進学を考えている生徒たちにとって非常に有意義な時間となりました。

セントキャサリン大学はアメリカ合衆国において、私立の女子大学の中では最大規模クラスを誇り、セントヨゼフ姉妹大学協会（ACSSJ）に属する9大学の一つです。これらすべての9大学は本校生徒に対して特別な手厚い奨学金制度を設けています。

Professor Hui Wilcox, from the Sociology Department at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota, gave a lecture to about 50 of our students (Grades 2-6) on the theme of ‘Socialization, Self and Society’. Professor Wilcox spoke about the perception we have of ourselves, and how this is influenced by the society around us. There was also time for group work and a chance for students to volunteer their ideas and opinions. Professor Wilcox made the university-level content very accessible for the students who attended, and they responded by participating actively in the group work activities. The class was a unique opportunity for students to experience an American university class and will surely be highly motivational for participants who are considering foreign exchange programs or entering overseas universities after graduation from our school.
St. Catherine University, one of the largest private women’s universities in the USA, is one of the nine members of the Association of Colleges of Sisters of St. Joseph (ACSSJ). All nine universities are our sister institutions and offer special scholarships to students graduating from this school.
